During hard times, Music could be an amazing "friend". Music makes us feel understood in our sadness and in our joy as well. Like a friend that it is always there to cheer us up or to feel happy with us.
Music makes us a little bit happier when we are downhearted because it tells us stories full of emotions and feelings. Sometimes, the lyrics almost seem to have been written for us or inspired by what we are feeling. Music goes along with us in good and bad times, celebrating victories and achievements with us or weeping with us about our losses. Music makes us spin with happiness or to chase away our sadness when we are missing what we lost or what was never ours.
I have an endless list of songs and bands that have stayed with me along the way. Songs and bands very different from each other. Some make me sing out loud and dance, others I like to listen them carefully as if it was the first time. Some of them, I hear always, others only at certain times, others, even though I like them, I don't hear that much, I prefer that they stay away because don't make sense, nowadays, in my life.
Recently, a Portuguese singer turned 75 years, his songs are always up to date because he sings life and emotions. The melodious side stands out, but specialy the lyrics, which are always poems where we can find ourselves or others. I think he deserves to be heard and read and that's why I tried to translate one of his poems. And you can hear the song here: https://youtu.be/sShXojmbjyo

Last Night by Sérgio Godinho
Last night I woke up with your kiss
You were coming down Douro river I went to wait for you in the Tagus river
You came on a boat which I did not see passing by
I ran along the bank to the edge of the sea
Until I saw you in a sand castle
You were singing “I’am a seagull and I had been a mermaid.”
I laughed at you “So, why don’t you fly?”
At that time, you looked,
then you smiled,
you opened the window and you flew ...
Last night, I went for a walk on the sea,
The "sister guitar" took care of dragging me
Reached the open sea the world opened in two
I looked down you were sleeping there deep inside
I lacked my foot I felt that I was sinking
through the algae your hair floated
the full moon darkened in the waters
and then we talked
and then we said
here we live for many years
Last night a wall collapsed
through the open crack my chest fled
you were on the other side knitting windows
you saw me in secret when leaning over them
I came to you and said quietly "hello",
I touched you on the shoulder and the mark stayed there
the whole sun fell between the hills
and then you looked
then you smiled
you said "I'm glad you're back"
cantavas "sou gaivota e fui sereia"
ri-me de ti "então porque não voas?"
e então tu olhaste
depois sorriste
abriste a janela e voaste
A noite passada fui passear no mar
aqui vivemos muitos anos
A noite passada um paredão ruiu
pela fresta aberta o meu peito fugiu
estavas do outro lado a tricotar janelas
vias-me em segredo ao debruçar-te nelas
cheguei-me a ti disse baixinho "olá",
toquei-te no ombro e a marca ficou lá
o sol inteiro caiu entre os montes
e então olhaste
depois sorriste
disseste "ainda bem que voltaste"
